ACS:Law - Documents held by Dept. for BIS

John Fletcher made this Freedom of Information request to Department for Business, Innovation and Skills

The request was successful.

From: John Fletcher

12 May 2010

Dear Department for Business, Innovation and Skills,

Please provide me with copies of all correspondence or
documentation held within your department which references ACS:Law
subsequent to June 2008 on file (electronically, including emails
or on paper, including letters). I am especially interested in any
correspondence with the Solicitors Regulation Authority, Office of
the Legal Services Ombudsman and Members of Parliament or the House
of Lords.

I accept that some of the information released may need to be
suitably redacted to comply with the Data Protection Act by
removing names, addresses and other specific personal information.

I am also interested in any action taken by employees within your
department (including ministers) with relation to the concerns
raised in the press about innocent individuals being caught up in a
systematic campaign by the aforementioned firm to pursue claims in
a bullying manner (in my opinion). There is a strong public
interest in the release of this data as figures from BBC news
indicate that 15,000 new people were to be in receipt of letters
from this firm in the early months of the year.

Yours faithfully,

John Fletcher

Dear FOI Requests,

I note that this request has passed the statutory deadline for
response of 10th June 2010. You have failed to provide any reason
for delaying the response and I must express my disappoint at the
complete lack of respect your department clearly has for meeting
its legal obligations.

I expect a response forthwith to explain your reason for being in
breach of the Freedom of Information Act, and expect the
information requested to be released with some immediacy.

Yours sincerely,

John Fletcher
