Accredited Trade Association Access to Database

Philip Collins made this Freedom of Information request to Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency

The request was partially successful.

From: Philip Collins

25 January 2010

Dear Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency,

I notice that the Association of Private Investigators is one of
the Accredited Trade Association's (ATA's) that has been granted
access to the DVLA database.

Under the FOI, how many requests for disclosure of personal
information, specifically Name of Registered Keeper and Address of
Registered Keeper have been granted by DVLA to Private
Investigators in the last 2 years ?

Also could you clarify whether a 'demonstrable just cause' is still
a requirement for access to the DVLA data or is membership of one
of the approved ATA's enough ?

Also please provide an example of some of the typical 'Just cause'
reasons given by Private Investigators as too why they ought to
have access to the DVLA Data on registered keepers that have
resulted in the requested information being provided.

Yours faithfully,

Philip Collins
