Dear Sir/Madam

Thank you for your email received on 16 March. You asked for information
about regarding wheelchair incidents from 2005-2009.

Your request has been considered under the requirements of the Freedom of
Information Act and I can confirm that Transport for London (TfL) does
hold some of the information you require.

The table below details the number of wheelchair incidents between
2005-2009 and the type of incident reported. Minor incidents imply that an
incident did not result in an injury to a passenger, or that any injuries
sustained would not have required hospital treatment. Major incidents
would have been more serious and required a passenger or driver to be
taken to hospital whether or not treatment was subsequently necessarily.

TfL’s incident management system is principally a statistical tool as
the vast majority of investigations into incidents are managed at operator
level. We do not hold records on the specifics of each incident or
complaints that might have been made to operators by wheelchair users
concerning incidents.

Wheelchair Incidents
Severity 2005/06 2006/07 2007/08 2008/09 Total
Fatal 0 0 0 0 0
Major 15 12 8 12 47
Minor 26 23 27 33 109
None 23 17 12 20 72
Total 64 52 47 65 228

The table above does not include data for 2009/10 as this hasn’t been
fully compiled yet. However, the trend for the year to date has been for a
slightly lower level of incidents than the previous year.

If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable
to access it for some reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to
appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would
like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.

Yours sincerely
