I am writing to request the exact, total annual cost of maintaining
library subscriptions to all academic journals, in any format, from
2005 to the present.

Dear Richard,
In response to your request submitted in accordance with the Freedom of
Information Act 2000, the figures for Library expenditure from 2005 are
given below.  It is not possible to give a figure for 2010/11, as we
have not yet reached the financial year end on 31 July.  The figures
given are for all  Library journal expenditure and include both the cost
of individually subscribed titles and those e-resources which offer
substantial access full text academic journals.
 
2005/6:   £567,913
2006/7:   £528,258
2007/8:   £639,650
2008/9:   £725,302
2009/10: £657,095
