Dear Mr Cross
I do apologise that you do not appear to have received a reply to your
email of 29 March.
ONS is not the arbiter of what constitutes a religion. The
religions/faiths which are recognised in Census outputs are a result of
extensive consultation with religious organisations and users of Census
statistics, and also reflect the range of write-in responses given in
pre-Census tests.
I have provided a link to the 2001 Census table Key Statistics 07, which
shows the broad religious groups used for standard output.
http://www.statistics.gov.uk/StatBase/Ex...
A more detailed religion classification is available for 2001 Census
commissioned output. Here is a link to the definitions volume:
http://www.statistics.gov.uk/downloads/c...
(see Paragraphs 6-11)
This is by no means an exhaustive list.
I hope this response has been helpful, and please let me apologise again
for the delay in responding,
Nicola Shearman
