A555 - Offerton section. Map and Status
Stephen Lomax made this Freedom of Information request to Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council
The request was successful.
From: Stephen Lomax

Dear Stockport Borough Council,
Please can you supply me with detailed maps/aerial photography to
indicate the path of the proposed SEMMMS A555 road, specifically in
the Offerton Area.
I have seen detailed maps of the Hazel grove and Torkington end,
and have a document from United Utilities showing that at least at
one time the A555 was going to go along Offerton Road, close to
Seventeen Windows.
As well as a map can you please let me know the current status of
the Offerton portion of the scheme, and whether the green land on
the opposite side to Seventeen Windows (at the top end of Bosden
Farm Estate) is likely to be used in its construction.
I await your response.
Yours faithfully,
Stephen Lomax

Dear Mr Lomax,
I am writing in response to your request for information below (ref 3108).
Please find attached two No drawings that show a provisional layout for
the proposed SEMMMS New Relief Road scheme in the vicinity of Offerton.
These drawings were included within the Annex E submission for the scheme
made to the Department for Transport.
The alignment and layout shown on these drawings currently has no status
as the existing Highways Agency A6 (M) scheme will continue to be declared
on local land charges searches until a new scheme has been drawn up and
the route of the proposed highway formally adopted by Stockport Council.

Dear FOI Officer,
Thank you for your reply. The maps are very useful. In your email
you state that the maps you have attached have no "Status", and
that the exising A6(M) will continue to appear on land charges.
Please can you:
a) Tell me if the maps sent to me as part of are likely to form the
route of a new scheme to replace the A6(M)
b) Send me the maps of the A6(M) route in the offerton and
vicinity. I am particularly interested in the junction between
marple and offerton road, where the Seventeen Windows building is
located.
Yours sincerely,
Stephen Lomax

Dear Mr Lomax,
I am writing in response to your request for information below (ref 3197).
In response to question (a):
Further to our previous response, the plans were produced as part of the
initial feasibility work which was carried out when the Council was
promoting the M60 to Airport scheme. The Council is currently not
promoting the A6 to M60 element of the scheme and consequently we cannot
confirm or otherwise that the layout on these plans would be approved in
the future.
In response to question (b):
The attached plan shows a scan of the existing Highways Agency A6(M)
scheme where it crosses Marple Road. This is in the vicinity of Fogg Brook
Bridge.

We have drawings supplied by the Council showing the proposed A6 bypass actually going through the new houses built on the former Trident Foams site at Foggbrook, Offerton. They shouldn't even be progressing this part of the scheme, so why waste our money on it? If you want to contact me via the What Do They Know administrators we would be happy to share information with you.
