Dear DWP Adelphi Freedom-of-Information-Request,A4e health and
safety report says; ceiling heights in basement toilets- again
there is no issue here. the area is not a work area and is only
frequented for a matter of minutes during the course of the working
day. For any member of staff or clients who are concerned about the
ceiling heights, alternative toilet facilites are avalable on the
ground and upper ground floor... the upper floor toilets the floor
is colapsing in there ?
AS DWP DO NOT TAKE CLIENTS HEALTH AND SAFETY Seriously AT
SOUTHPORT A4E I WILL NOW REPORT IT TO HSE BOOTLE

Yours sincerely,

Ian Jackson left an annotation ( 5 December 2009)

I dont know why DWP is hiding from this issue. Under the system for New Deal, contractors had to provide details of the premises and such premises are inspected within the first month of the contract? The contract also allows for DWP or JCP staff to pick up on H&S issues.

one thing that i have learned since looking into a4e for well over a year now is that dwp could not care less what a4e do, most of the front line staff at jcp no how bad a4e are but are Scared to speak out

Dear Mr Rymer,

On this request for a review of a request answered in full in November
you asked:

'WHAT DID A4E HEALTH SAFETY OFFICER SAY'

In answer to that specific question, not all the information is held as
some of what they said was verbal, actual comments which can be
attributed to an individual would also be consider as exempt under
section 40 and confidential under section 41.

However our investigations with A4E have been ongoing since November and
I can confirm that a further H & S visit by A4e's Health and Safety
Department was commissioned.

On receipt of the details it was clear there were some shortcomings in
the standard of H& S in the office. The majority of issues where of a
process/procedural nature and where rectified immediately, for others
e.g. update to fire alarm system (current system adequate but new
installation represents an enhancement); large quantity of combustible
materials stored in a room where it is not possible to lock the door; a
broken light fitting and water on the floor near the sink in the Gents
toilet, some action was required and A4e have confirmed that these
actions had all been cleared.

Reference was also made to the steps from the upper floor area which was
raised in the original FOI request. These steps are of differing heights
and A4e have attempted to rectify this issue by levelling out the
staircase. However, this produced additional issues and they have had to
strip back the staircase and re-fit the carpet and install visually
contrasting nosings to indicate the change in step height, appropriate
signage and warning tape is also in place. A4E have investigated various
options to eliminate this issue however, due to the age and status of
the building (Grade 2 listed Coach House) the only reasonable option was
the above.

A4e conduct a rolling programme of inspections that are undertaken by
the Health & Safety Department (CMIOSH qualified) each year and these
inspections are prioritised via analysis of each local managers
inspection report (HSO37).

Dear DWP Adelphi Freedom-of-Information-Request,you have not said
anything about the door frames in the toilets a door frame has to
be a certain hight, the door frames in the downstairs toilets are
to low!!! many people hurt themselves on them!!!.. i have a letter
from lisa gill regional manager a4e tricia barton third party
cressington road st marys rd garston sent me a copy of the letter
from lisa it says.

having reviewed comments raised about health and safety, our
internal health and safety department conducted a visit on 18th
febuary 2009 and below is a summary of the findings.
a fire risk assessment has been completed and on inspection of the
premises, the route to the main front door is clear, and contains
no combustible materials or sources of ignition.

ceiling height in the basment toilets-again!!!!there is no!!! issue
here. the area is not a work area and is only frequented for a
matter of minutes during the course of the working day. for any
members of staff or clients who are concerned about the ceiling
heights, alternative toilet facilities are avalible on the ground
and upper ground floor. however, additional signage has been
created(which complies with the safety signs and signals
regulations) no it didnt!!!) to warn people of the steps leading
down to the toilets, the lintel when navigating the steps, and
ceiling height in the toilets themselves.

when going up or down stairs you should not have to bend over.

can you please tell me if the health and safety person that did the
report for a4e a4e own health and safety person! is CMIOSH
qualified, dwp send clients to a4e southport and if a4e southport
health and safety is not up to scratch you have a duty to sort it
out

Yours sincerely,

robert rymer
