A14 Ipswich - simple lorry breakdown clearance
Roger Pearse made this Freedom of Information request to Highways Agency
The request was successful.
From: Roger Pearse

Dear Highways Agency,
Is the agency responsible or partly responsible for ensuring that
broken-down lorries on the A14 in the Ipswich area are removed?
If so, what timescale targets exist for clearing these, if any?
What are these targets, and how well does the agency perform
against them?
Many thanks!
Yours faithfully,
Roger Pearse

Dear Mr Pearse,
Thank you for your Freedom of Information request to the Highways Agency received on 05/01/10.
I am sorry for the length of time it has taken for us to view and respond to your email. Recently we have experienced a very high volume of calls on our Highways Agency Information Line which sadly resulted in us being short of available staff to deal with emails.
Your enquiry has been passed to the relevant team within the Highways Agency and they will respond to you within a maximum of 21 working days (as required under the Freedom of Information Act).
Your reference number for this enquiry is 8855580.

Dear Mr R Pearse,
Thank you for your email on the 4th of January 2010.
The Highways Agency (HA) are not responsible for ensuring broken-down
vehicles on the A14 are removed. This area is not patrolled by the traffic
officers and so they do not routinely manage vehicle recovery in this
area. The HA may carry out facilitated recoveries in this area, but this
would be the request of a driver. Also in exceptional circumstances the HA
may provide support to the police in this area.
Suffolk police are responsible for recoveries on the A14 in the Ipswich
area, therefore information on timescales, specific targets and
performance against them by their recovery contractors can only be sought
from them.
I hope that you find this information helpful.
Sincerely,
Ieva Bokej, Network Operations (East), Area 6
