Dear Ms Bradley,

Thank you for your request for information, which was received by
Essex County Council on 5th May 2009.    Your request is covered by
the Freedom of Information Act, under which we must respond within
20 working days.

The information requested was; 1.) Would you please advise how much
the council have paid for the average speed cameras that are
currently sited on the A127?

The average speed cameras sited on the A127 cost £455,086. Essex
County Council contributed £39,860 to this amount. A local based
company, KeyMed Ltd contributed the remaining amount of £415,226.

Speed averaging cameras have been proven to reduce serious
accidents by 45% or more and represent value for money and are the
most effective way of saving lives.

You may reuse all or part of this information free of charge in any
format or medium.  You must reuse it accurately and not in a
misleading context.
