Dear Ms Murton
Freedom of Information Act 2000
Request for Information: Stage 2 Appeal
Please quote our reference: E3797
Subject: Home Education & Child Protection Issues
Thank you for your email message asking for a Stage 2 internal review of our Stage
1 response to your Freedom of Information request, which you were not happy with
as you did not feel the Council had provided a satisfactory response to Part A of your
request.
Part A of your request was:
The number of persons in the local authority of compulsory school age who are, or
claimed to be, electively home educated and who have been either suspected or
found to be involved in child abuse, neglect, forced marriage, sexual exploitation or
domestic servitude.
I have conducted a Stage 2 internal review and searched our records again in order
to respond to this part of your request. Our initial response and Stage 1 response
stated that there were currently 59 children known to be home educated in Newham.
We therefore supplied the information requested in relation to the number of children
home educated. However, we may not have been clear in our response to this part
of your request. I therefore can confirm that we do not currently have any children
with a Child Protection Plan who are home educated.
If you require any further information or are not happy with our response please do
not hesitate to contact a member of our team on (020) 8430 3737 or email us at
[Newham Borough Council request email].
