Dear A.L. Stopper

Freedom of Information Act 2000 - Request for Information

I have now investigated the question related to your Freedom of Information enquiry as set out below.

Do you conduct exit interviews with staff who are leaving the

council? Yes

If so please can you identify the 10 most common reasons for staff

leaving the council in the last 5 municipal years

We changed our database in 2008 and therefore the information is reported slightly differently for the period requested. In the last 12 months the information we have recorded on leavers is as follows

Reasons for Leaving

Number

%

Career Break

1

0.15

Dismissal

4

0.61

End of Fixed Term Contract

70

10.64

Redundancy

3

0.46

Resignation

50

7.60

Retirement

4

0.61

Total Leavers

132

20.06

Total Headcount

658

The high level of fixed term contracts reflects the people we employ for summer play schemes and the panto season.

I have attached an Excel spreadsheet with the information for the previous 5 years from our old system - each line on the spreadsheet refers to a different employee.

If you are unhappy with my response or wish to appeal against it you may pursue any complaint through the Council's Complaints Procedure by writing to the Head of Corporate Law at Maidstone House, King Street, Maidstone, Kent ME15 6JQ.

Should you remain dissatisfied with his response you may appeal to the Information Commissioner, Wycliffe House, Water Lane Wilmslow SK9 5AF.

Yours sincerely
