FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT 2000 - INFORMATION REQUEST

Thank you for your recent Freedom of Information request received on 13 March 2009.

Your request has been considered and the information is below.

You requested the following information:

1) Which council run cemeteries has a Muslim section, and/or accommodates Islamic burials?

The London Borough of Camden owns St Pancras cemetery and Hampstead cemetery.

St Pancras cemetery accommodates Islamic burials. It has no separate Muslim section.

Hampstead cemetery is now full, but Muslims have been buried there in the past.

2) If any, when (WHICH YEAR) were the Muslim sections established, or policies to accommodate Islamic burials implemented?

There is no Camden council policy concerning Islamic burials. Camden cemeteries are multi denominational and open to all.

Please note that families in the London Borough of Camden may use Trent Park Cemetery in Cockfosters. This cemetery has a designated Muslim section which was established in 2002.
