Dear Mr Sittampalam

When I wrote to you on 14 April acknowledging receipt of your request for a review of the
handling of the request for information you sent asking for details of Home Office funding
made available to the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO), I said I had been asked to
carry out that review.  The purpose of this letter is to let you know the outcome of that review.

In order to carry out my review of the handling of your request, I discussed it with the Home
Office unit where it is being considered.  I established that your request was received at the
Home Office on 10 March and was due to be replied to by 7 April.  I understand that due to
unexpected absences from within their team your request was delayed.  I acknowledge that
the Home Office has therefore breached the statutory deadline contained in section 10(1) of
the Act in this case. I apologise for this and regret that you were not at least contacted to
explain that there would be a delay.  I have recommended to the unit that they should let
applicants know if there is to be a delay in the handling of a request.

I understand that the unit have now drafted a reply to send you and that you should receive
this in less than two weeks.  Should you be dissatisfied with the content of that substantive
response when received, we wil  be pleased to conduct a review of its contents.

Should you be dissatisfied with the content of any further review that you might request, or
with the content of this letter about the time being taken to answer your initial request, you
have further rights of appeal to the Information Commissioner as set out in section 50 of the
FoI Act.  The Commissioner can be contacted at:
