30th March 2009
Dear Mr Sands,
I am writing with reference to your request for information regarding overt
surveillance, dated 09th March 2009, made under section 1(1) of the Freedom of
Information Act.
You asked for the following information:
Please provide details of the 'national standards' for overt surveillance that the
NPIA was commissioned to produce by ACPO.
I am writing to advise you I have established that the information you requested is
not held by the NPIA.
The NPIA has not been commissioned to develop any 'national standards' for overt
surveillance by ACPO.
The closest thing to 'national standards' for surveillance is the publicly available
code of practice on covert surveillance made under RIPA. This is the responsibility
of the Home Office, and is published on the HO website.
http://security.homeoffice.gov.uk/ripa/publication-search/ripa-cop/.
