Grant support to not-for-profit sector from Newham Council
Newham council has a vision - by 2010, to make Newham a major business location and a place where people will choose to live and work. Much work has been done towards achieving this goal, and the Council is rightly proud of its many achievements. But much still needs to be done, and Newham council is determined to make further progress.
Our aspirations are set out in the Community Strategy. We will work with others to help create:
A better environment
An active and inclusive community
A safer Newham
Access to jobs
A healthier population
Investment in young people
We recognise that to deliver the services that our very diverse and vibrant community deserves the Council needs to drive forward developments in partnership with a wide range of service providers, including the community, faith and voluntary sectors.
In the Newham Council Grants booklet you will find full details of funding allocations during 2004 - 2006 from the following programmes:
Culture & Community Main Programme
Culture & Community Children's Services
Early Years
Housing
NewCEYS
Social Services
LBN/Royal Docks Trust Joint Programme
The current position
Early Years and LBN/RDT Joint Programme continue to be annual funding rounds but both are closed to new applications until later in the 2005/06 year.
The other Council programmes have allocated their grants for a two-year period (2005-07) and will therefore be closed to new applications until later in the 2006/07 financial year.
New opportunities to apply will, as usual, be advertised widely at the appropriate times on the Council web-site (www.newham.gov.uk) and in the local media.
In the meantime organisations seeking funding may wish to access the Grantnet service:
Newham Council is working in partnership with Grantnet to help community, faith and voluntary groups obtain up-to-date information on directly relevant funding sources and grants free of charge. Full information is attached.
Further advice for successful funding applications
Check your project meets the priorities/specifications of the programme
Ensure your outputs will deliver an effective service
Demonstrate cost effectiveness in the outcomes you plan to achieve
Develop effective recording and quality measurement systems
Establish clear monitoring of service delivery
Demonstrate clearly how you are addressing equalities issues
For most funding programmes your organisation's eligibility will depend on factors including:
Having a constitution
Having a management committee with a Chair, Secretary and Treasurer
Having an equal opportunities policy and working to implement it
Providing your latest annual report and approved accounts
To strengthen your organisation further and enhance the possibility of successful fundraising we suggest the following actions:
Take the opportunities that arise for attending training courses and support meetings
Network with other organisations working on similar or related areas of service, and look for partnership opportunities
Seek the advice and assistance of local organisations that can help you build the capacity and effectiveness of your organisation
Research the needs of your target community or service users

Follow the `Login' instructions on screen. If you are a new user you will need to register for a password which will be sent to you by email.
Once in the system, complete the questions about your organisation and the project you wish to undertake. Grantnet will respond with a quick overview of the schemes that could apply to your project.
