Dear Mark,

Freedom of information request – RFI20090363

Thank you for your request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (“the Act”) dated 26th
February, seeking:

“the names and email addresses of employees who work in the department(s) that is responsible for
managing the copyright of films, television shows, and documentaries produced by the BCC.
As well, send me the organizational chart of this department(s).

...the names and email address of employees who work in the archival department that is responsible for
archiving films, television shows, and documentaries produced by the BCC. As well, send me the
organizational chart of this department(s).”

The department which contracts and clears literary and music copyright is part of the Talent
Rights Negotiation Group, which is part of Rights & Business Affairs. Their organisation chart is
attached to this response. You may also be interested to know that the BBC’s commercial
subsidiary, BBC Worldwide Ltd, is responsible for generating external income from commercial
exploitation of the BBC’s programmes and other assets; however, BBC Worldwide is not covered
by the Act. If you want to seek permission for re-use of BBC copyright material, please contact:
BBC Information

Telephone: 03700 100 222
Textphone: 08700 100 212

The department which archives BBC content is called Information & Archives, and their
organisation chart is attached to this response. You can find out more about the BBC Archive
here http://www.bbc.co.uk/archive/index.shtml This explains how and why the BBC archived its
content in the past and does so today, and how the archive can be used.

Please note that individual teams at the BBC are responsible for holding their own organisation
charts, and therefore the format and level of detail varies from team to team.

Having consulted the Information Commissioner’s Office guidance on the disclosure of
information about staff, we are withholding the names and email addresses of individuals. We
consider that this information is exempt under section 40(2) of the Act, as disclosure to a third
party would breach the first Data Protection principle. BBC employees do not have an
expectation that their names and email addresses will be published in this way, and this is a
reasonable expectation. It would therefore be unfair to disclose this information.

Appeal rights

If you are not satisfied with this response you have the right to an internal review by a BBC senior
manager or legal adviser. Please contact us at the address above, explaining what you would like us
to review and including your reference number. If you are not satisfied with the internal review,
you can appeal to the Information Commissioner. The contact details are: Information
Commissioner's Office, Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire, SK9 5AF, telephone
01625 545 700 or see http://www.ico.gov.uk/

Yours sincerely
