Dear Mr Clark,
Re: Freedom of Information Act 2000 – Request for Information
We have now re-validated the data we sent you previously, following review by a
senior clinician. The revised information, in response to your request, is provided
below. Please ignore the information you received from us previously.
Question 1
Could I get the number of people who received any chemotherapy in 2008? Answer 1
123 patients received chemotherapy in 2008 (Jan-Dec). These were newly
diagnosed patients that had their first treatment as chemotherapy.
Question 2
Could I obtain the number of people who were diagnosed with chemotherapy
induced febrile neutropenia and the number of deaths due to chemotherapy-
induced febrile neutropenia in 2008? Answer 2
28 patients were identified with chemotherapy induced febrile neutropenia; several of
the patients were admitted on more than one occasion with neutropenic sepsis
following systemic anti-cancer chemotherapy at the Cancer Centre (Barts and the
London NHS Trust). These patients are not included in the total number given in
answer 1 above.
Also upon re-validating the data we can now confirm that there were
no neutropenic
sepsis related deaths.
I hope this is satisfactory, if not, please do not hesitate to contact me.
You have the right to complain if you feel that we have not dealt with your request
