Dear Ms Chapman,
FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT 2000: UNITED KINGDOM CORPORATION
Thank you for your enquiry dated 26th January 2009 asking for information under the
Freedom of Information (FoI) Act 2000.
You asked a number of questions, which I have listed below.
1) Is the UNITED KINGDOM CORPORATION (listed on Dunn & Bradstreet)
actively trading?
2) If so, what is the purpose of its existence?
3) If so, who are the shareowners?
4) If so, who are the shareholders?
5) If so, how much does it owe (if anything) to international organisations such as
the International Monetary Fund, World Bank, Bank of International Settlements,
etc?
6) If so, is the UNITED KINGDOM CORPORATION in any stage of bankruptcy?
The Freedom of Information Act 2000 provides individuals with a right to request
recorded information held by a public authority. To bring your enquiry clearly within
the scope of the FoI Act, we are interpreting it as seeking recorded information that
answers the above points. You might find the Information Commissioner’s guidance
to requestors helpful for future reference and I attach a link for your convenience.

Under the Act, the Treasury can only answer in regard to a request for
recorded
information held by the Treasury itself not other Public Authorities, which under the
Act are considered discrete entities and subject to the Act separately.
We note that companies called
‘United Kingdom Corporation Ltd’ and
‘UK
Corporation Ltd’ are registered at Companies House.
Having searched our records I
can confirm that we do not hold the information you have requested about the
UNITED KINGDOM CORPORATION. Given the questions to which you seek
answers, I would advise that HM Treasury is not the appropriate Public Authority to
answer these questions and I would suggest that you contact Companies House –
an Executive Agency of the Department of Business, Enterprise and Regulatory
Reform, which may be able to answer some of your questions.
Information can be accessed through their website and through their London
Information Centre. I include some web links that may be of help to this end.

If you have any queries about this letter, please contact us at the email account given
in the header to this letter. It would help us, if you could remember to quote the IRU
reference number (also in the header) in any future communications.
Yours sincerely,
