Subject: WIRRAL GROUPED SCHOOLS PFI SCHEME
The total annual payment to be made by Wirral Council to Wirral School Services Limited in 2008/09 is £9,485,478.
This sum relates to the provision of nine schools - eight secondary and one primary. Of this approximately £2,555,670 is paid by schools as payment for a range of facilities management services - caretaking, cleaning, grounds maintenance, etc.
The balance, £6,929,861 is paid by the Council, towards which the Council receives £5,471,541 additional government grant, leaving a balance of £1,458,320 to be paid by the Council.
The contract includes the maintenance and repair of the premises over the duration of the contract. This allows Council capital to be used on other priorities rather than what were significant outstanding premises issues at the nine schools. The project includes new schools at Weatherhead High and Leasowe Primary and new facilities at seven other sites, including six new sports halls.
