Solid Tumour Chemotherapy (STC) adult patients admitted to West Middlesex University Hospital (WMUH) with chemotherapy-induced neutropenic sepsis
Beginning of January 2008 to end of December 2008

*Lung patients do not receive their chemotherapy at WMUH.
Notes:
There were no deaths within the 30-day period of receiving chemotherapy treatment.
On average each patient receives six cycles of chemotherapy, therefore a total of (81 x 6) = 486 cycles of chemotherapy. Neutropenic admissions make up 2.3% per cycle.
The average length of stay for patients admitted with neutropenic sepsis was 7 days.
The lung patient admissions are included in the data although these patients are not treated at West Middlesex Hospital and have only been identified as they received GCSF.
West Middlesex Hospital also admits patients with neutropenic sepsis from other London Trusts, for example, Imperial College and UCL, but these admissions are difficult to identify.
Haematology adult patients admitted to WMUH with chemotherapy-induced neutropenic sepsis
Beginning of January 2008 to end of December 2008
Calculations:
Total number of haematology patients diagnosed with neutropenic sepsis |
33 |
Total number of episodes (i.e. admissions) for haematology patients related to neutropenic sepsis |
77 |
Number of deaths directly related to neutropenic sepsis |

Notes:
In the review neutropenia was classed as having a neutrophill count of ≤ 1.5 x 109/L
