Dear Mr Clarke

FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT 2000

I refer to your e-mail of 19th January 2009 in which you ask for the number of applications made by month for an operators licence during 2008 together with the number licences granted during the same period.

Attached to the covering e-mail you will find a spreadsheet giving the statistics for the number of applications received. It is worth pointing out that there is an average period of nine weeks between an application being made and the grant of a licence. For this reason there is no direct correlation each month between the number of applications received and the number of licences granted.

I have also attached twelve separate spreadsheets giving details of the license applications which have been decided each month for both HGV and PSV's during 2008.

If you have any queries about this letter, please contact me. Please remember to quote the reference number F0001631 in any future communications.
