Request for Information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 -

Local Government Ombudsman Investigations

Thank you for your email dated 27 January 2009 which we received on 27 January 2009.

You are entitled under section 1 (1) of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 to know whether the Council holds the information requested and if so, to have that information communicated to you if no exceptions apply. I must point out that what you are entitled to is the information contained in a document, rather than a copy of that document, although very often the easiest way to provide the information may be to copy it.

If we believe that there is a good reason why any of the information should not be disclosed, we will let you know as much as we can about how we reached our decision.

The information that you requested was as follows:-

“During the last five years how many times has the Local Government Ombudsman (as a result of investigating a complaint against Ryedale District Council) brought to the attention of the council the fact that a member of Ryedale District Council staff had misled them, lied to them or done anything else to hinder their investigation. If they have what disciplinary action was taken against the individual(s) concerned by the council”.

The response to your request is as follows:-

During the last five years the Local Government Ombudsman (as a result of investigating a complaint against Ryedale District Council ) has not found that a member of Ryedale District Council staff has misled them, lied to them or done anything else to hinder their investigation.
