Dear Ms Grant,

Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 – Provision of Information

Thank you for your request for information dated 6 January 2008.

I have dealt with this in accordance with the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 and
can advise as follows:

1.  The cost of repairs to the road surface on New Street on 26 and 27 November 2008 is
£16,312.26. This information is based on the latest valuation of the works undertaken and
therefore these figures may vary before a final valuation is agreed.

2.  With regards to the timing of the work on New Street, it was decided that this small
section of resurfacing could be best accommodated whilst the contractor was undertaking
remedial works on the Canongate. Given the extensive disruption of October 2008 whilst
the Canongate works were being carried out, the New Street repairs were planned to be
carried out during night hours in order to minimise any further interference to daytime
traffic.

3.  The cost of repairs to the road surface on the Canongate in October 2008 was
£250,545.56. As above, a final valuation is yet to be agreed and the costs may therefore
require to be amended.

Should you require any further assistance, please contact Lisa Paton, Customer Service Officer
on 0131 529 3738 or [email address].
