Dear Mr Bentley, 
 
Thank you for your e-mail of 18 May 2008 requesting information on how many qualified 
Home Information Pack surveyors there are currently in UK and how many qualified 
Domestic Energy Assessment surveyors there are currently in UK and if available how 
many are self employed in each case. 
 
I can confirm that Communities and Local Government does hold some of the information 
that you have requested and that I am able to provide you with information on  
 
"how many qualified Home Information Pack surveyors there are currently in UK and how 
many qualified Domestic Energy Assessment surveyors there are currently in UK

 
The number of accredited Home Inspectors is 873 and the number of accredited 
Domestic Energy Assessors is 7,057. These figures are up to date at 23 May 2008. 
 
I am unable to provide you with the information you asked for regarding how many [Home 
Inspectors and Domestic Energy Assessors] are self employed because Communities 
and Local Government does not hold this information. 
 
Communities and Local Government as an organisation aims to be as helpful as possible 
in the way it deals with requests for information under the Freedom of Information Act
