Dear Mr Carroll,

Thank you for your email of 27 December 2008 to the Freedom of Information mailbox requesting information relating to the monetary value of all weapons exports from the United Kingdom to Saudi Arabia since September 2001. Your request has been considered under the Freedom of Information Act (FoIA).

The Department does not hold information on the monetary value of all weapons exports from the UK, but can provide information on the value of licences issued for export. You should note however that the fact that an export is licensed does not necessarily mean the export will take place. The Government publishes detailed information on export licences issued, refused and revoked including the overall value and a summary of the items covered by these licences, in its Annual and Quarterly Reports on Strategic Export Controls.

The Government's Annual Report, published since 1997, and Quarterly Report, published since 2004, are available from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) website at

I hope the information contained in these reports meets your requirements. You may be able to obtain details of actual exports made from HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC).
