A New WNC Website
At the October Board meeting, it was agreed that a redesign of the WNC website was a priority WNC.
A number of suggestions were made on what the new website should be able to do. As such, we would like the new website to have the following facilities and/or content:
A calendar of future events
Latest WNC news, broken down by work area (VAW/International/Outreach/etc.)
Reports on recent WNC events that have taken place
Archive of news more than 3-4 months old
Ability to set items to appear on a particular day and be deleted automatically after a period of time
Links to Partner organisations, categorised by type
Polls on `latest issues'
Catalogue of WNC publications, broken down by work area
Syndicated news from other websites, such as Fawcett Society/EHRC/etc.
Partners to be given a password to access `Partner-Only' items
Partners to be able to suggest online, news or events for inclusion on the site
Surveys similar to the MfW Priorities consultation
A form for sending emails to WNC
A search facility, so visitors can find content without using Google, etc.
The general public would not be able to directly suggest items to go on the website, but will be able to send general comments via a form. Partners will be able to set out the layout and formatting of their suggestions, which WNC would approve online. We would not envisage the ability for Partners to enter into an online `discussion' between each other on issues, due to the substantial amount of staff time required for this kind of facility.
A list of possible designs was emailed out and Commissioners were asked to give their first and second choice. All of these attract minimal cost, yet provide greater flexibility and are more attractive than any free sites that are available.
Printed examples of the most popular designs will be brought to the December meeting where Commissioners can decide the design they would like the Directorate to take forward.
Once a design is chosen, the technical process of setting the site up should be reasonably quick. It will require several weeks to plan how the new website should be structured, entering the existing WNC information onto the site and fine tuning of the final version.
This gives a potential completion date of early February 2008 for the new site.
