Dear Dr Bevan,

Thank you for your recent request for information under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 regarding the new library management system.

Scottish Borders Council is currently installing a cashless catering system in its secondary schools. All other mainland Scottish Authorities have already implemented such a system. Given that this is a well established method of delivering this service in the public sector the answers to your specific questions are

  1. No legal advice was taken

  2. A privacy impact assessment was not conducted

  3. The information commissioner was not consulted

  1. A copy of the letter sent to parents is attached

  1. A copy of the application form is attached. This details the information required in order to receive a card

  1. The only staff that will have access to this data if the applicant has agreed to their data being shared are

    1. authorised Scottish Borders council staff,

    2. authorised NEC Programme Office staff, assisting at the request of Scottish Borders

    3. authorised card production bureau staff for the purposes of producing the cards and

    4. authorized staff from the supplier of the Cashless Catering system who are bound by a confidentiality agreement signed with Scottish Borders Council.
