Dear Sir / Madam

I am writing to inform you that the proposed Designated Public Place Order (DPPO), covering all of Greenwich Borough, has been agreed and will soon be in operation.

In order for it to be enforced, sufficient signage is required to draw public attention. Included are copies of the signage in both poster and sticker form. We request that you place these signs in a position where your customers will see them while entering or exiting the premises. This will assist police officers in moving on nuisance drinkers from outside of your premises. As I'm sure you're aware, such drinkers often discourage, and often prevent, other customers from entering your premises.

The order allows a constable, and other accredited persons, to require a person, in a designated place, not to drink alcohol in that place if the officer reasonably believes that a person has consumed or intends to do so, and to surrender the alcohol and any opened or sealed containers in the person's possession. Any person who fails without reasonable excuse to comply with a constable's request under this provision may commit an offence and be liable to prosecution. This power is discretionary and should only be used by officers if they believe that the person is acting or may begin to act in an anti-social manner.

Once again, let me reiterate, this will not affect the day-to-day trading of your premises as it does not cover your premises or areas within the curtilage of your premises. It will only affect your customers if they are drinking alcohol in other public places.

Yours sincerely
