Dear Ms Davis
I am writing in response to your request for information of 18 November 2008 regarding performance related pay schemes for which Communities and Local Government (CLG) is responsible. Your request has been considered under the Freedom of information Act and I can confirm that CLG does hold the information that you have requested and is set out in the following table:
Category of Employee |
Scheme |
No of Employees (approx) |
No. of Employees who received/will receive Awards in 2008 |
Senior Civil Service (SCS) |
SCS Annual Performance Bonuses |
150 |
102 |
All Staff below SCS |
CLG Performance Awards |
1982 |
Around 30% will receive a performance bonus when the pay award is implemented |
Please note the numbers of employees in the table above excludes employees on unpaid special leave, outward loans and secondments but includes inward loads and secondments. The grades for employees in each of the categories in the table are shown in Annex A.
In CLG bonus payments are made to those members of staff who are found to have made a significant contribution towards the achievement of the teams, and/or Departments objectives. Individuals are expected to show that they have exceeded the requirements set for the achievement of the objective and have demonstrated exemplary behaviour in doing so. Our SCS staff are also assessed against a range of factors, such as:
The achievement of their Prime Objective which focuses on the way in which they lead, manage and develop their staff;
Degree to which business objectives are met;
Delivery for Ministers;
Demonstration of skills such as judgement, leadership and the PSG skills; and
Effective resource management.
Please note that CLG does not hold information centrally about the performance schemes of its Agencies. I have therefore passed your information request to the following organisations that will provide you with separate replies:
The Fire Service College;
The Government Offices;
The Planning Inspectorate;
Ordinance Survey; and
Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre.
CLG as an organisation aims to be as helpful as possible in the way it deals with requests for information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and the Environmental Information Regulations 2004. If, however, you are not satisfied with the way in which your request has been handled or the outcome, you may request an internal review within two calendar months of the date of this letter. Information about the Department's review procedures and how to apply for an internal review of your case is contained in the enclosed leaflet. This also explains your right to apply directly to the Information Commissioner for a decision in the event that you remain dissatisfied following the authority's review
If you have any queries about this letter please contact me.
Yours sincerely
Robert Stagg
