Lord McDowall
Dear Lord McDowall,
Request under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002
I refer to your correspondence dated 17 November 08, in which you requested the following information under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002:
Please confirm how many children are currently on the Child Protection Register or Social Services 'child at risk' register, living in the GCC area.
In addition please confirm how many visits have been made in total to the children on the register/list.
The Council is treating this request as a request under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.
Question 1
We currently have 278 children on the child protection register.
Question 2
We do not hold/compile the specific data you have requested centrally. It has been established that it would take a large manual exercise to locate, retrieve, compile and provide such information regarding visits from individual case records.
I am therefore writing to advise that compliance with this part of your request would cost the Council more than the upper limit allowed by section 12(1) of the Act and the fees regulations made under the Act (this limit is currently £600). Accordingly we are unable to comply with your request.
The information provided in response to your request is, unless otherwise indicated, copyright © Glasgow City Council 2006. It is supplied to you in terms of the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002. Any further use by you of this information must comply with the terms of the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 as amended and/or the Copyright and Rights in Databases Regulations 1997. In particular, any commercial use or re-use of the information provided requires the prior written consent of the Council. Requests for such consent should be addressed to the Head of Corporate Communications, Glasgow City Council, City Chambers, George Square, Glasgow G2 1DU. Some or all of the information may be subject to third party copyright, in which case the permission of the third party copyright holder may be required. No claim is made in respect of third party copyright.
If you are dissatisfied with the way Glasgow City Council has dealt with your request under the Freedom of Information Act (Scotland) 2002 you are entitled to require the Council to review its decision. Please note that for a review to take place you must:
Lodge a written requirement for a review within 40 working days of the date of this letter
Include a correspondence address and a description of the original request and the reason why you are dissatisfied
Address your request to the Solicitor to the Council:
The Solicitor to the Council
Glasgow City Council
City Chambers
George Square
Glasgow G2 1DU
Email: [email address]
You will receive notice of the results of the review within 20 working days of receipt of your request. The notice will state the decision reached by the reviewing officer as well as details of how to appeal to the Scottish Information Commissioner if you are still dissatisfied with the Council's response. You must request an internal review by the Council before a complaint can be directed to the Scottish Information Commissioner.
Yours sincerely,
