Mr R Vickery

Dear Mr Vickery

FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT 2000 - INFORMATION REQUEST

Your request relating to the works recently implemented in Hatherley Crescent, Sidcup concerning the rationale and costs of the project has now been considered and the information requested is set out below:-

These adjustments to the kerb lines form part of the preliminary works associated with the Sidcup Town Area Renewal scheme. The aim of this scheme is to improve the public realm in the Station Road area, including the addition of a pedestrian phase (green man) within the traffic signals at the junction with Longlands Road. To accommodate the inclusion of a pedestrian phase at these signals, a number of adjustments are required in the carriageway layout of Hatherley Crescent. The width of the carriageway at the stop line of the signals will be increased to incorporate a dedicated right turn lane. It is also proposed to reposition the existing bus stop into a newly created lay-by to allow vehicles unimpeded access to these signals.

Please find attached a sketch of the adjustments proposed to the Hatherley Crescent 'island'. The works you refer to in your email are only the first part of this exercise, which will culminate in a complete re-landscaping of the area. The estimated cost of the full works at this 'island' is approximately £70k.

I hope this clarifies the situation with regards to the works mentioned in your email. However, if you would like to discuss this scheme further you can contact Gordon Kiley on 020 8308 7932.

If you have any further information needs in the future then please contact me.

If you are unhappy with the way the authority has handled your request, you may ask for an internal review. Please contact the FOI review Officer at [Bexley Borough Council request email] who will arrange an internal review of your case.
