Dear Kevin
Sheffield City Council passed your Freedom of Information enquiry to us to
answer as Sheffield Homes manages council housing on behalf of Sheffield
City Council.
We allocate homes in accordance with the Council's lettings policy. I have
attached a table from the lettings policy showing the household size
criteria we use as part of the allocations process.
Obviously the number of people occupying a property can change over the
years. Under the current lettings policy, tenants who are occupying a
property that is larger than they need can apply for a housing priority to
move to a suitable smaller property. However as a secure tenant they are
entitled to remain living in their current home if they wish.
The figures for 3 and 4 bedroom properties now occupied by one occupant
are:
Number of 3 Bed Properties with one occupant: 2036
Number of 4 Bed Properties with one occupant: 35
These figures are based on the records we hold on our IT system. Tenants
are encouraged to tell us about changes to their circumstances or the
people living in their homes, but unless do it might affect any benefits
they are claiming they are not obliged to do so. So the figure is not
necessarily 100% accurate.

Dear Willcock Tony (HSG),
Thanks for this. Excellent and speedy reply.
One quick clarification request regarding these figures. What is
the total of 3 & 4 bedroom houses (and also the total hosing stock)
managed by yourselves so I can work out a percentage occupied by a
single householder?
Yours sincerely,
Kevin Osborne
