Ref: FOI-2008-137
8 December 2008
Dear Mr Washington,
Your request was received on 10 November 2008 and I am dealing with it under the terms of
the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA).
You asked:
“This request is similar to that I previously made, which you labelled FOI-2008-92. I am
asking for the corresponding data for applications in other years.
‘I would like to know the figures for home applications and acceptances by type of UK
school/college and gender for the mathematics tripos 2007, broken down similarly to the
following document (which gives these figures across all subjects)
http://www.admin.cam.ac.uk/reporter/2007... - Cambridge University Reporter 2007/08
No 14 table 1.2’
I am aware of the other data at the site http://www.admin.cam.ac.uk/reporter/2007... ,
specifically tables 4.2 and 4.3. These break down applications and acceptances by subject
and school type OR subject and gender, they do not allow comparison between school
types and gender.
Please could you send the corresponding information in for admissions 2008, 2006 and
2005 and any earlier years available.”
Please find enclosed the information you requested.
Please also note:
1. As in table 1.2 of the Cambridge University Reporter 2007/8 No 14, the data is for
‘Home’ applications and acceptances. ‘Home’ is defined as applicants in the UCAS
residential categories A, B, C, D and G (that is all categories except O).
2. The category ‘Other’ schools includes applicants from schools/colleges of an unknown
school type and non-UK schools/colleges.

3. The data provided is non consistent with the data in tables 4.2 or 4.3 which is for all
applicants and therefore does not filter ‘Home’.
