Thank you for your correspondence dated 6th November 2008.  Your request relates to genealogical 
information. 
 
The MOD has a specific process for members of the public who wish to obtain such information and this is 
detailed in the MOD Publication Scheme at www.foi.mod.uk.  You should note that a non-refundable £30 
flat-rate search fee is payable in advance for genealogical enquiries made other than by the 
widow/widower or his/her representative.  Proof of kinship is required before information is disclosed.  
 
For your information, and to help you make a decision on whether you wish to proceed with this request, 
you will be provided with the administrative records of the relative that you are searching for. The records 
will contain the name, address at which your relative was living when they enlisted, their service number, 
what their service record was within the British Army, Royal Navy or Royal Air Force, e.g. 
Regiment/Squadron(s)/Ship(s) they were attached to, also any sub unit(s) that they were attached to within 
that, Regiment/Squadron/Ship, lists of postings, the dates of postings, i.e. 6th June 1944 Europe, and their 
date of discharge from the particular arm in which they served.
