Dear Mr Leach,
Request for information RFI/02221
Thank you for your email dated 25th June 2010 in which you asked:
I am writing to enquire about the most dangerous roads in shooters hill ward. I am looking in particular at roads with relatively less traffic calming measures in relation to those in the immediate vicinity to establish whether calming some roads leads to increases in dangerous driving on other roads.
I would like to have the following data revealed for analysis:
a) Ward data showing dates and locations road accidents where pedestrians or cyclists have been injured by motor traffic since 1995.
b) The dates and locations that traffic calming measures were introduced since 1995.
I would be grateful if you could find some, if not all, of this information.
Please find attached a Spreadsheet which shows personal injury casualty details for Shooters Hill Ward from 1st January1995 to 28th February 2010 (latest available), the data is for road injuries to pedal cyclists and pedestrians as requested. I have included the reference, day, date, time, location, vehicle type, severity and age of casualty.
Please also find attached a list of the 20mph zones and the roads in those zones within Shooters Hill Ward have 20 mph zones. Within these zones traffic calming features such as speed cushions and raised tables have been provided to reduce traffic speed to safe levels within residential areas. Within each 20mph zone traffic calming features are generally no more than 100 metres apart.
I am unable to supply the dates when the schemes were introduced this is because during an office move from one building to another in 2009 these records were destroyed. We think that most of the schemes were implemented between ten and fifteen years ago.
If you have any queries about this letter, please contact me. Please remember to quote the reference number above in any future communications.
If you are unhappy with the service you have received in relation to your request and wish to make a complaint or request a review of our decision, you should write to the Chief Executive, London Borough of Greenwich, Town Hall, Wellington Street, Woolwich SE18 6PW.
If you are not content with the outcome of your complaint, you may apply directly to the Information Commissioner for a decision. Generally, the ICO cannot make a decision unless you have exhausted the complaints procedure provided by the Council. The Information Commissioner can be contacted at: The Information Commissioner's Office, Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire SK9 5AF.
Yours sincerely,
Jan Goldsmith Assistant Policy Officer |
