Dear Ms Moore,

FOI request

You requested information on the numbers of children who were forcibly adopted since 2006.

Can I firstly advise that forcibly is not a term which is used in relation to adoption.  No agency would force a child to be adopted and court would not grant an adoption order if this was being done against a child's wishes.  However we understand your request to be about adoptions which were made against the wishes of the parent.

Within Falkirk, 28 children were placed for adoption from January 2006 to June 2010.  Of these 6 were children who were relinquished, and the remainder, 22, were therefore placed using compulsory measure such as Freeing Order, or Children's' Hearing Requirement.  It is worth noting that not all of these will have been actively contested by the parents, as these routes are often used in other situations.

I trust this information is helpful to you.

Yours sincerely

Vivien J Thomson
