Order No 1 2010

Notice is hereby given that the Isle of Wight Council in exercise of their powers under section 1(1) and (2), 2(1) to (3) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (`the Act' of 1984), the Road Traffic Act 1991 (“the Act of 1991”) and of all other enabling powers and after consultation with The Chief Officer of Police in accordance with Part III of Schedule 9 to the Act of 1984 propose to make an order the effect of which will be to:

1. Introduce a contraflow bus lane that will be situated in the following lengths of road:

    1. On the easterly side of the road known as St James Square from its junction with High Street to its junction with Pyle Street operating in a southerly direction;

    1. On the easterly side of the road known as St James Street from its junction with Pyle Street to its junction with South Street operating in a southerly direction;

    1. On the northerly side of the road known as South Street from its junction with St James Street to its junction with Church Litten operating in an easterly direction.

2. The contraflow bus lane will be reserved for use only by:

  1. Local buses on a registered local bus service;

  1. Licensed and private hire vehicles when carrying passengers. However licensed and private hire vehicles are permitted to travel in the St James Square Section of the St James Square/St James Street/South Street Contraflow Bus Lane when not hired;

  1. Pedal cycles.

3. The contraflow bus lane will be in operation at all times on all days. An exemption will be given to emergency service vehicles.

This Order is necessary to ensure the safe and expedient passage of all road users.

A copy of the draft Order, this Notice and the relevant plan may be inspected between normal office hours at the Customer Service Centre, County Hall, Newport, Isle of Wight during the objection period. If you wish to object to the proposal contained in this notice you should send the grounds for your objection, in writing, to Road Safety and Traffic Management, Engineering Services, Enterprise House, St Cross Business Park, Monks Brook, Newport, Isle of Wight, PO30 5WB not later than 12 noon on Friday 5 March 2010.
