FREEDOM OF INFORMATION REQUEST REFERENCE NO: 001885/08

I write in connection with your request for information dated 24/10/2008, which was received by Greater Manchester Police on 27/10/2008, for the following information:

1.

a. The total number of homophobic hate crimes reported to you in the last year

b. The last three years

2.

  1. The total number of those hate crimes that were reported to the Crown Prosecution Service in the last year

b. The last three years.

Following receipt of your request searches were conducted within Greater Manchester Police to locate information relevant to your request

Result Of Searches

Question 1a. The total number for the 2007/08 is 533.

Question 1b, has now been considered and I am not obliged to supply this information, because it is exempt by virtue of s21of the Freedom of Information Act. This relates to information which is accessible to the applicant by other means, the information is available from our website via the following link:

Please note: in Greater Manchester Police, we count homophobic hate crimes as those motivated by sexual orientation.

Question 2a & 2b.

Greater Manchester does not hold this information is an easily retrievable format, the cost of determining if the information is held, locating and retrieving the information exceeds the

` Appropriate Level' as stated in the Freedom of Information (Fess and appropriate limit) Regulations 2004. It is estimated that it would cost more than £450 to comply with your request.

In order to supply you with the requested information, our system would need to be searched manually, not only would this process be extremely time consuming, which would clearly be exceeding the cost threshold in this case, but there would be no guarantee of accuracy, due to the number of records which would have to be viewed.

In accordance with the Freedom of Information Act 2000, this part of your request is refused.
