I am writing in response to your e-mail of 24 May requesting information about the Prevent Programme. Your request was received by Communities and Local Government on 25 May.

Your request has been considered under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

I confirm that Communities and Local Government holds the information that you have requested and that I am able to provide you with the following information:

  1. The Area Based Grant covering 2010-11 for Prevent totals £17m.

  2. Area Based Grant issued to London local authorities for 2010-11 in support of Prevent was £6.2m.

  3. Prevent funding is provided to priority local authorities. Seventy local authorities received funding during 2007-08. During 2010-11 94 local authorities received Prevent funding out of which 31 were based in London.
