Dear Mr Stokes

I am writing in respect of your recent application for the release of information held by this

1.
Could you please tell me the total financial cost to the Council, plus total staff
hours worked, in applying for the Local Government Chronicle’s ‘Council of the
Year’ award in 2010?
As a high-performing council, Teignbridge District Council decided to apply for the
Council of the Year Award in the Local Government Chronicle Awards 2010.
The application was made in writing via the LGC’s website, and Teignbridge’s entry
was written by the Council’s in-house Media & Communications Team. It took 3.5
hours to compile with a staff-cost of £52. The Chief Executive was also involved in
compiling and approving the submission, but did so in her own time. There were no
additional costs.
As a short-listed Council, we were asked to host a visit from award judges to help bring
the entry to life and show them more about what we do. In preparing for and hosting
this visit we spent 25 hours of staff time equalling £752, with additional (non-staff
resource) costs of £131 for catering, a hire vehicle to show judges around the district,
and printing a supplementary booklet for the judges.
The total cost of applying for the award, including the judges visit, was £935.
If you disagree with our decision or are otherwise unhappy with how we have dealt with
your request, you may use the Council’s Complaints Procedure by writing to the Council
for a review of the decision. The review will be undertaken by the appropriate Service
Lead, who will provide you with a written explanation of the outcome. If you are not
satisfied with the outcome provided by the Service Lead you may ask for the matter to be
referred to our Chief Executive.
