Dear Sir
FREEDOM OF INFORMATION REQUEST REFERENCE NUMBER 0870/08
I refer to your e-mail dated 1 November 2008, in which you state that you submitted a request
to Strathclyde Police, but did not receive a response within 20 working days. I would advise
that after a thorough check of our systems no record can be found of this request being
received by Strathclyde Police. I have now searched on the whatdotheyknow.com web site
and assume that the request you refer to is as follows:
“Please confirm how many serving officers in the Strathclyde area, have been convicted of:
1. Fraud and deception related offences
2. Violent offences, including assault
3. Drug related offences
4. Sexual offences
5. Racial, religious or homophobic offences.”
This request has now been considered and the information you have requested is detailed
below.
I can advise that 14 police officers currently serving with Strathclyde Police have convictions
for assault and 1 under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971.
Please note the convictions recorded may not necessarily be restricted to the behaviour of the
individual whilst a serving police officer but may be relevant to a period prior to joining
Strathclyde Police. The individual circumstances of each application are considered as all
convictions, including conditional offers and parking tickets, must be disclosed.
I hope this information is helpful, however, if you are not satisfied with the way in which
your request has been dealt with, you are entitled in the first instance to request a review of
the decision made by the Force. Should you wish to request such a review, please write to
Mrs Sheena Brennan, Disclosure Manager at the above address within 40 working days of
receiving this letter.
Once informed of the Review Panel’s decision, if you are still not satisfied, then you are
entitled to apply to the Scottish Information Commissioner for a decision. Contact details are;
Office of the Scottish Information Commissioner, Kinburn Castle, Doubledykes Road, St
Andrews, Fife, KY16 9DS, telephone 01334 464610.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your interest in Strathclyde Police.
Should you require any further assistance concerning this matter please contact me directly on
0141 435 1262 quoting the reference number given.
Yours sincerely
Lorna Grieve
Freedom of Information Officer
