Dear Ms Dunster

Freedom of Information Act Request re Renewal Energy Usage.

Thank you for your request received in this office on 6th October 2008.

The information you requested is:

Energy consumption figures attached.

Utility consumption is based on 2007 calendar year and fossil fuels are weather corrected against the 20 year average degree day data:

Oil (35 sec gas oil) 3,014,920 kWh

Oil (28 sec kerosene) 761,414 kWh

Natural Gas 35,390,237 kWh

LPG 1,017,146 kWh

Electricity 14,625,184 kWh

Biomass 965,961 kWh

100 % of electricity procured by Pembrokeshire County Council is generated by Certified Good Quality Combined Heating and Power (GQCHP). This reduces the carbon dioxide emissions associated with Council electricity use by 33%.

Biomass wood pellets account for 965,961 kWh hours of heat energy per annum and are classed as carbon neutral and 100% renewable. Biomass installations are ongoing and we expect to be providing at least 1,400,000 kWh of heat via biomass wood pellets by mid 2009 when the new Haverfordwest Leisure Centre is complete.

We also have a number of micro renewable installations installed including PV, solar hot water panels, and small scale wind. Further information can be gleaned from the following link http://www.planed.org.uk/leaderplus/energy_map.htm

The Council is also actively engaged in bringing hi tech renewables enterprises to the area and for example Quiet Revolution and NIK Energy who both specialist in wind turbine manufacture have recently based their operations in Pembrokeshire. Similarly the Council fully support the development of Wave Dragon wave power project off the Dale Peninsula.

A synopsis of Energy and Sustainable Development is attached for detailed information.

If you have any complaints in respect of your information request, the Council does have a complaints procedure which includes requests specifically relating to the Freedom of Information Act. If your complaint is not resolved by the Council's procedure, you have a right under S50 of the Act to apply to the Information Commissioner for a further review of the matter by writing to the Information Commissioner's Office, Cambrian Building, Mount Stuart Square, Cardiff CF10 5FL.

Yours sincerely

Neil Bennett
