Dear Mr Hardwicke Carruthers |
|||
Request for Information - RFI 908 - Maladministration Records |
|||
I write following my e-mail dated 30 September 2008.
Thank you for highlighting an apparent discrepancy between information disclosed by Luton Borough Council (sourced from an Audit Commission Extranet Portal website) and that published by the Local Government Ombudsman (LGO) in relation to the number of LGO complaints settled locally for Luton in 2007/2008.
I have discussed your request with our Performance Information Team working on the project to deliver the performance indicator profiles, and can provide the following information in response to the queries raised in your e-mail of 25 September 2008:
The data held by the Audit Commission is sourced from the Local Government Ombudsman website at the following address: http://www.lgo.org.uk/annual.htm.
This data is loaded into our database for use in the performance information profile; we do not have any contract for the supply of this data and we access this data as it is available publicly.
In the instance you highlight, there is an error within the performance information profile for this indicator: the data actually pulling through to complete this text is drawing on 2005/06 data (seven instances) rather than 2007/08 (nine instances). The 2007/08 data in our database is correctly loaded as nine; it is only this indicator that is affected, all other data is showing appropriately.
The error is confined to the configuration of the profile and does not affect the data loaded to the data base. As a result of your concern, we have updated the profiles; the following is included in our recent news release: “Ombudsman data - Local settlements. In the text above the in detail tables for ombudsman complaints the number of local settlements was showing 2005/06 figures rather than 2007/08. This has now been corrected. Please note: This data is not used in the current performance and improvement section and does not appear with quartiles in the in detail section. Therefore, there is no impact in overall performance calculations or the in detail tables.”
The information you seek is held by the Commission but also directly available via the LGO website at the above address. Please confirm whether you wish the Commission to supply a copy of the information. I will close your request if I do not hear from you within two weeks of the date of this letter.
Thank you for bring this matter to our attention. If you are unhappy with what has been provided, you can raise a complaint under the Audit Commission's Access to Information Complaints Procedure, please see the following:
