Dear Mr Steele

FREEDOM OF INFORMATION REQUEST REFERENCE NUMBER 0771/08

I refer to your request for information dated 24 September 2008, which was received by
Strathclyde Police on that date.

I am requesting statistics on all types of crime in each area of Glasgow – i.e. the city and
the surrounding suburbs.

Your request for information is considered exempt in terms of the following section of the
Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.

Section 25(1) – Information otherwise accessible

Crime statistics for Glasgow City Centre and the surrounding suburbs is already available on
the Strathclyde Police web-site and can be accessed via the following link:

http://www.strathclyde.police.uk/crimestats/search_stats/Default.aspx.

I would further direct you to the two drop down boxes at the top of the web page, accessed
using the above link, entitled ‘Division’ and ‘Sub Division, which allow you to search for
crime figures in a whole division or to further refine the search and obtain figures for a
specific sub divisional area.  The divisions that cover the area specified in your request are A,
B and G.  Furthermore at the bottom of the statistics web page there are a further two drop
down boxes which allow you to select a date range.

I hope this information is helpful, however, if you are not satisfied with the way in which
your request has been dealt with, you are entitled in the first instance to request a review of
the decision made by the Force.  Should you wish to request such a review, please write to
Mrs Sheena Brennan, Disclosure Manager at the above address within 40 working days of
receiving this letter.  Once informed of the Review Panel’s decision, if you are still not
satisfied, then you are entitled to apply to the Scottish Information Commissioner for a
decision.  Contact details are; Office of the Scottish Information Commissioner, Kinburn
Castle, Doubledykes Road, St Andrews, Fife, KY16 9DS, telephone 01334 464610.  I would
like to take this opportunity to thank you for your interest in Strathclyde Police.

Should you require any further assistance concerning this matter please contact me directly on
0141 435 1262 quoting the reference number given.

Yours sincerely
