Mr Phil Carter
[FOI #30839 email]
22nd March 2010
Dear Mr Carter
Freedom of Information Request â our ref. 14366
I am writing further to my e-mail of 18th March about your request for
information relating to the Whitechapel Murders, specifically the âSD/CID Files
from 1886 â 1894â. Your request has been handled as a request for
information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.
I am afraid that the Home Office no longer holds any information on this
subject. Al of the files relating to the Whitechapel Murders have now been
transferred to the National Archive (TNA) at Kew. The files are classed as HO
144/220/A49301 and HO 144/221/A49301. You may also find the
Metropolitan Police files on the subject of interest. These are also available at
the TNA and are to be found in file class MEPO 3.
You can make a Freedom of Information request to the TNA by writing to their
Enquiry Service at The National Archives, Kew, Richmond, Surrey TW9 4DU
or using their online contact form.
Further information on accessing the information held by the National Archive
can be found on their website http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/default.htm.
If you are dissatisfied with this response you may request an independent
internal review of our handling of your request by submitting a complaint
within two months to the address below, quoting reference 14366. If you ask
for an internal review, it would be helpful if you could say why you are
dissatisfied with the response.
