Dear Ms Mayall
Request for information
In your email of 13 March, you asked for an explanation of the discrepancy in the information I gave you about Mr Redmond's expenses in response to your previous request this year (CS/10/009) and a response given to Mr Carruthers in January 2009, when he asked for the same information. You also referred to a similar discrepancy in information given to Mr Price concerning Mr White's expenses.
I can only give you the same explanation as the one I gave Mr Price:
A number of mistakes were made when this information was originally extracted from our finance database. These included:
the report was run for periods that did not coincide with the annual figures presented;
the report included expenditure that were not relevant to the expenses enquiry; and
the private car mileage was wrong and included other travel which should have been added to `other travel'.
I can assure you that the information I gave you is correct. I should point out that Mr Price asked for a review of my response to his request, and he received an assurance from the Deputy Chief Executive that the later set of figures are correct.
I am sorry for the delay in providing this response.
/…
That concludes my response. If you feel I have not dealt properly with your request, you have the right to appeal and, should you wish to do so, I can supply a copy our internal complaints procedure. If you do request an internal review - can you please indicate why you are unhappy with my response. You also have the right to apply to the Information Commissioner to determine
whether your request has been properly dealt with. You should note however that the Commissioner will not consider any complaint where you have not first exhausted our internal complaints process or where there has been undue delay in contacting him. You will be able to obtain further details of the Information Commissioner's role from the website on www.ico.gov.uk.
Yours sincerely
Hilary Pook

# This covers the period April 2009 - January 2010
** “Other travel” can include train fares, taxi fares, plane fares, and hire cars. Train tickets are often purchased in advance by the Commission and therefore are not paid for by the person travelling and then claimed back, but the cost is still included in these figures.
