I am writing in response to your request for information which was submitted online on 
12th March 2010.  We have considered your request under the terms of the Freedom of 
Information Act 2000.  In your request you wrote: 
 
“I see that you have released 
http://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/postbox_location_list_for_2009 a 2009 list of 
post-boxes. If this list has since been updated, please provide an electronic copy, under the 
terms of the Freedom of Information Act 2000.” 
 
Please find attached an up to date list of all Royal Mail postboxes.  This information is 
extracted from Royal Mail’s central database of final plate data.  This is Royal Mail’s 
definitive source data for Postbox Collection Plate times which is used to measure 
collections performance for quarterly reports to the regulator Postcomm.   
 
Please note that this data is not used by Royal Mail to provide a central record of detailed 
postbox locations.  As such, some postcode or location details may appear to be incomplete 
or incorrect.  However, not all of this information is required for Royal Mail’s reporting 
purposes and there is therefore, no operational requirement for Royal Mail to update and 
maintain detailed location data for every postbox on this list.  However, the list does include 
all postboxes recorded on the current final plate database as at March 2010, and I hope 
therefore that this suitably answers your request.   
 
If for any reason you are not satisfied with this response, you do have the right to request
