Dear Mr Scrivens,

Thank you for your Freedom of Information request received on 08 March 2010. I apologise for the delay. You asked:

“After serving the department with a subject access request they have failed to supply all the information they hold. I specifically asked for copies of the telephone conversations I had with them which demonstrated their negligence and deliberate obstruction of providing information I required to formulate an appeal I was undertaking. None of these were provided only their edited and altered transcript of one conversation. There were at least 7 in the recent past and demonstrated their deliberate withholding of said information. There was a wealth of medical information that I had sent to them which they will not inform if it is on their data base or not. Can you investigate this matter with some urgency please.”

I am sorry that you appear to have had problems obtaining copies of the telephone conversations you have had with the Department.

As you may know requests for your own personal information are dealt with under the Data Protection Act. The What Do They Know website is for people who want access to non-personal information held by public authorities like DWP under the Freedom of Information regime. You will appreciate that responses to the What Do They Know website are publicly available so inevitably our response cannot contain any personal information about you.

However if you write to me directly using the Department's own e-mail address (see above) and include your home address and details of your contact with the Department I will be able to identify the relevant data protection officer in your locality. I can then refer your complaint to them for a detailed response and let you know who that person is.

Yours sincerely,
