FREEDOM OF INFORMATION REQUEST REFERENCE NUMBER 0120/2010 
 
I refer to your request for information dated 17 February 2010, which was received by 
Strathclyde Police on that date. Your request has now been considered and on 17 March 2010, 
a decision was made to grant your request in full.  As such, the information you have 
requested is detailed below. 
 
Case No’s: 120872/2006 & 120894/2006 
      
Please advise the total financial spend to date on legal costs defending Strathclyde Police in 
these Employment Tribunal Cases.  Can you if possible, please provide a breakdown of 
these costs which include external representation, representation costs incurred through 
use of the force internal legal resources and all costs relating to administration. 
 
In relation to the two Employment Tribunal cases you refer to, Strathclyde police have paid, 
to date, a total of £7710.00 for external legal representation.  
 
With regards to any internal legal and administration costs incurred defending these two 
cases, your request for information has now been considered and I can advise you that 
Strathclyde Police does not hold any of the information requested.  In terms of Section 17 of 
the Act, this letter represents a formal notice that information is not held. 
 
By way of explanation, internal legal and administration costs are not routinely collated for 
individual cases.  You will be aware, your right under the Act is to obtain information that is 
held by a public authority at the time the request is received and there is no obligation on a 
public authority to create new information. 
 
I hope this information is helpful, however, if you are not satisfied with the way in which 
your request has been dealt with, you are entitled in the first instance to request a review of 
the decision made by the Force.  Should you wish to request such a review, please write to 
Mrs Sheena Brennan, Disclosure Manager at the above address within 40 working days of 
receiving this letter.
