1 Purpose of meeting
To discuss potential options for the Airport junction for further development.
1.1 Option 1 - Four signalised roundabouts inc 1 new plus dual carriageway
links.
1.1.1 This option was originally titled Airport Option 2 (SMBC) Sheet 3 of 3 (see
attached).
1.1.2 A larger at-grade roundabout to be built just west of the existing roundabout at
Aviator Way / Ringway Road West.
1.1.3 Reconstructed roundabout at Outwood Lane / Outwood Lane West (T1/3). Link
onto Outwood Lane would be stopped up.
1.1.4 New signalised roundabout at Thorley Road (serving potential development
land).
1.1.5 Modification of Terminal 2 roundabout with new link to Thorley Road
roundabout.
1.1.6 Dual carriageway links between T2 r/a and Thorley Rd r/a and Aviator Way r/a.
1.1.7 Dual carriageway links between Aviator Way r/a and T1/3 r/a.
1.1.8 Extents of retaining walls to be indicated on dwgs for costing purposes.

1.1.9 Option 1 is an evolvement of MCC option A of dwg 204420/001 which has
been rejected at this stage due to insufficient traffic capacities and the
proposed large gyratory forming an inappropriate layout for future
development.
1.2 Option 2 - Compact 3 level entrance into Airport.
1.2.1 Option 2 attached indicates direct access into T1/T3 and out of T1/T3, both
east and west.
1.2.2 Further 2D works required indicating tie in to Aviator Way, impact on Hotel

entrance/boundary, proposed metrolink line, pedestrian links to metrolink
exchange/development site, access to T1 from east.
1.2.3 Further 3D works require to raise proposed A555 mainline.

1.3 Option 3 - "Big mac" roundabout
1.3.1 New option to be developed with grade separated roundabout for T1/T3.

1.3.2 Balanced option to minimise impact on Hotel to south and minimise land take
to north (potential) and also direct route through to M56.
2.0 All options to be drawn up by 20.01.10.
3.0 Options Evaluation Matrix (elements to be carried out internally / externally on
completion of drawings (20.01.10)
3.1 Operational Safety
Scheme options for Styal Road to be audited (RSA1) internally by SMBC.

SW to obtain quote for short Environmental Assessment by Mouchell in the

SW to instruct Mouchell as part of 3.2.
